Ep. 63: Chris Gethard
Wrestling Team

Where do creative people come from? On Beginnings, two fledgling comedians talk origins with professional creators and others just starting out, and hopefully answer their parents’ question, “What are you doing?”

On today’s show, we talk to Chris Gethard. Chris is a writer and performer based in New York City, who started with the UCB Theatre over a decade ago and currently performs on their house improv team The Stepfathers. UCB is also where he incubated The Chris Gethard Show, a Best Show-like program which can be found weekly on the Manhattan Neighborhood Network. In addition to this, Chris has also penned a book of autobiographical tales entitled A Bad Idea I’m About to Do and was recently adopted by IFC as part of their Adopt-A-Comic program. A few weeks ago, we sat down with Chris in the halls behind the UCB Chelsea Theatre and debated singing to a girlfriend’s mother, discussed the lawlessness of West Orange and dwelled on our collective shame.

ALSO! Don’t forget the next Beginnings: Live at UCB East. It’s going to be incredible with Lizz Winstead (co-creator of The Daily Show and Air America Radio), David Rees (Get Your War On, How to Sharpen Pencils), and musical guest A.C. Newman (The New Pornographers)! Sept. 11th at 8pm!
